“TFT” generally means an LCD screen—though quite possibly a lower-quality LCD than the in-cell models we’re offering. “Soft OLED” is essentially an aftermarket remake of the original style of display inside the iPhone X line. “OLED” in many cases refers to “Hard OLED,” which, like it sounds, is a single, inflexible panel.
Video: Comparing a standard TFT LCD vs an IPS TFT LCD in direct sunlight. Having a high brightness level is important if your display is going to be used in direct sunlight or somewhere with high ambient brightness. The display's brightness level isn't as important if it’s going to be used indoors or in a low light setting.
It is where IPS displays overtake TFT displays easily in the comparison because the IPS displays have a much faster and speedier transmittance of frequencies than the TFT displays. Now the transmittance difference between TFT displays and IPS displays would be around 1ms vs. 25ms. Each of LG's IPS, Samsung's PLS and AUO's AHVA are slightly different but the fundamentals are rooted in IPS. So in summary, TN panels twist, IPS panels use a parallel alignment and rotate, while OLED TVs take all that’s good about LED-backlit LCDs and make it better. Each cell is itself an emitter of light, with an organic (the O in OLED) covering over it that responds to electrical stimulation. The ‘organic’ part just means it’s made with carbon, whereas LEDs are made with silicon or gallium.
